Singer Presents Elvis, 50th Anniversary Pt.3

As the 2018 holiday season approaches, EPE (Elvis Presley Enterprises) is bombarding the public with new releases such as the 50th anniversary of the “Comeback Special”. While this phrase has been attached to the title for marketing purposes since the 1980’s, the historically correct title to the T.V. Show was “Singer Presents Elvis”. This is not a slam against EPE they are just doing their job AND doing it very well.

However this series of “Lounge” pages, or blogs if you will, are focused more on historical facts and the perception of a 13 year old boy in the San Francisco Bay Area who Idolized Presley, and his music.

DecHandout1Okay having said that, there was a Singer Sewing Center in the Westlake Shopping Center in Daly City CA. It’s been 50 years for me too gang, but it was definitely in early November when the store started “Plugging “ i.e. advertising, the television special. There were stacks and stacks of promotional materials on the counters and you could take as many as you wanted for FREE! Here are BOTH sides of an original hand out card that measures 3×6 inches.

DecHandout2Below is the Pocket Calendar 2 ¼ x 4 inches. Interesting that R.C.A. the Colonel and everyone involved chose this photo. The Gold Lame suit was made in 1957. Presley wore it on his last tour in 1957 before joining the U.S. Army. This photo was used on the L.P. “Elvis Gold Records Vol. 2” and on three different E.P. releases (45 R.P.M. Extended Plays) A Touch Of Gold Vols. 1, 2 & 3. The photo has been reversed from those earlier record covers.

Though it was being handed out in 1968, the calendar was for the coming year of 1969.

1968PostCard1For many years, R.C.A. would release a post card hand out that would be stacked on the counters of record stores. Again you could take as many as you wanted. The usage of this post card was expanded to Singer stores as well. Here are both sides of it.

1969EightxTen2It was also part of promoting Presley’s product for years that an 8×10 photo would be included in the L.P. Album jackets. This time and 8×10 was created for the T.V. Show. Again, you could take as many as you wanted. Here also are both sides of it.

FrontCoverNow, the “pièce de résistance”. This is a booklet, again a handout that one could take as many copies as one wanted for FREE! It’s another great look at marketing the “Singer Presents Elvis” T.V. Special. I have found photos of the front cover only on goggle search. So, I’m assuming, that this is the first time the entire booklet will be shown. This is my copy and I scanned every page. I made as large as I could so you could read the pages and get the full brunt of the experience. Above is the front cover.
